Utilities


The PUCN regulates public utilities engaged in electric, natural gas, telephone, water and wastewater services; gas and electric “master meter” service at mobile home parks; and some propane systems. The PUCN is also involved in monitoring gas pipeline, rail safety, and underground excavation near subsurface installations.

Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) Chapters 426, 455, 701, 701B, 702, 703, 704, 704A, 704B, 705, 707, 708, 709, and 710 set forth the enabling legislation for the PUCN’s regulatory duties. As a state agency, the PUCN is subject to the Nevada Administrative Procedure Act and the Nevada Open Meeting Law requirements as delineated in NRS Chapters 233B and 241, respectively, and performs its regulatory functions in accordance with these statutes.
