NV Energy Southern Nevada One-Time Bill Credit

1. What is the action?

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) has ordered NV Energy (Nevada Power d/b/a as NV Energy) to return $59.7 million in overearnings from 2018 and 2019 to its current Southern Nevada customers in the form of a one-time bill credit to be issued as soon as practicable.

2. Who is eligible?

Only current NV Energy Southern Nevada (Nevada Power) customers are eligible. Current status means those customers who have active accounts as of October 1, 2020. 

3. What is the size of the bill credit? 

The size of the credit is based on the rate class and its contribution to the $59.7 million. To facilitate the distribution of the credit, the residential single-family and multi-family rate classes will receive a flat one-time credit.

Customers in the single-family residential class will receive a one-time bill credit of approximately $53. According to NV Energy, that represents the company’s largest-ever one-time bill credit to its customers.   

4. Is this cash?

No. This is a credit toward your outstanding NV Energy Southern Nevada electric bill.

5. How will the credit be applied to customer bills?

The bill credit will first be applied to any outstanding past due balances and then to the current balance. If the credit is larger than the current bill, it will be carried forward to the next bill.

6. Does this apply to other utilities?

No. It only applies to NV Energy’s Southern Nevada customers. It does not apply to NV Energy Northern Nevada customers or any other utility.

7. Do I have to apply for this credit?

No. It will automatically be applied to your account through NV Energy’s customer billing system.
