Clark County Begins Transition to New Area Code

El Condado de Clark Comienza La Transición al Nuevo Código De Área

On Aug. 3, 2013, the transition to the new 725 area code in Clark County begins with the implementation of permissive 10-digit dialing (area code + telephone number). Permissive dialing is part of a three-step process to help consumers become familiar with 10-digit dialing before the assignment of the 725 area code to new telephone lines and services begins in 2014.

      Step I: 10-Digit Permissive Dialing Begins Aug. 3, 2013

Effective Aug. 3, 2013, you should begin using 10 digits (area code + telephone number) whenever you place a call in the 702 area code. If you forget and dial just seven digits, your call will still be completed. During the permissive dialing period, safety systems, alarms, PBXs, fax machine calling lists, speed dialers, private entry access systems, auto-dialers and out-dialing lists on personal computers should be reprogrammed. You should also update items such as stationery, checks, and business cards to include 10-digit numbers. Alert family, friends and business associates about your 10-digit number, teach your children their 10-digit telephone number and how to dial home and educate elderly relatives and friends on the need to dial 10 digits.

        Step 2: Mandatory 10-Digit Dialing Begins May 3, 2014

Beginning May 3, 2014, you must dial 10 digits (area code + telephone number) for all calls within the area code. Calls incorrectly dialed using only seven digits will be referred to a recording which will inform you to dial the area code + the seven-digit telephone number to complete the call.

Step 3: Introduction of the New 725 Overlay Area Code Begins June 3, 2014

Beginning June 3, 2014, new telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers using the new 725 area code.
